Biography
Olivier Militon

Olivier Militon started his musical career very early by learning the guitar and vocals, before performing on stage with various contemporary music groups. inveterate musician and cinema-lover, inspired by a wide variety of genres ranging from classical to rock, popular and electronic music, he moved towards his creative way by obtaining a Master II in Music Applied to the Visual Arts in 2009 (MAAAV).

I quickly became a film lover, I was carried away by the story, the staging. I didn’t “listen” to movies, in the sense that I didn’t pay a specific attention to music by dissociating it from the rest, I lived the cinema as a total experience, almost physical.

Selected as one of the Berlinale Talents in 2015, mentored by Howard Shore, he is also a laureate of the “Next Step” Semaine de la critique (2015) and “Spot The Composer” (2020) programs organized by the Cannes’ Film Festival. He has won several european and international soundtracks’ awards, including the European Talent Award (2011), the Jerry Goldsmith Award (2013), the Best Music Award at FIMUCITE (2019) and an Honorable Mention at the Peer Raben Music Awards (2022) of the Soundtrack Cologne Festival.

He distinguishes himself by his own original style, at the confluence of heterogeneous musical universes, which always favors a strong link with the image.

I love in film music this particularity of flirting with many musical styles, travelling into different universes from one project to another: from orchestral to world music, from Jazz to electro ! This feeds my musical imagination in the service of the Story. The way we look at the narration is the central point of my creative process. I like to be devoted on a project, to take part in this collective adventure that is the film.

Author of scores of nearly than fifty films – some of them multi-awarded internationally, such as Stéphanie Clément’s “Pachyderme”, nominated for the 2024 Oscars – he’s working without breaking on musical and Sound idents for France 3 TV channel to series or feature films’ soundtracks such as “In a Whisper” directed by Heidi Hassan and Patricia Perez – best film at the IDFA Amsterdam 2019 and nominated for the Premios Feroz 2020 – or “The Virgin and Child” by Berivan Binevsa.

Each artistic collaboration is a source of discovery, sharing and exchange : these human encounters will carry the project and allow the birth of a film !
